LEBANON: ARMY ON ALERT



The Lebanese army is on alert after one of the country's former leading political figures was assassinated.
Rafik al-Hariri, a billionaire who as prime minister materminded the country's reconstruction from its 1975-90 civil war, was killed in a massive car bomb in Beirut.
The Lebanese army began patrolling through Beirut and other parts of the region, setting up checkpoints.
In a statement, military chiefs said: "The army leadership announced a general alert for all units of the Lebanese army.
