CIA uses jet, Red Sox partner confirms

'Stunned' by report of controversial prisoner transfers

By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff March 21, 2005

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Phillip H. Morse, a minority partner of the Boston Red Sox, confirmed yesterday that his private jet has been chartered to the CIA and said he was aware that it had been flown to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where more than 500 terrorism suspects are held, as well as other overseas destinations.

''It's chartered a lot," Morse said by phone from his winter home in Jupiter, Fla. ''It just so happens one of our customers is the CIA.

''I was glad to have the business, actually. I hope it was all for a real good purpose."

U.S. Misled Allies About Nuclear Export

Pakistan's role as both the buyer and the seller was concealed to cover up the part played by Washington's partner in the hunt for al Qaeda leaders, according to the officials, who discussed the issue on the condition of anonymity.

In addition, a North Korea-Pakistan transfer would not have been news to the U.S. allies, which have known of such transfers for years and viewed them as a business matter between sovereign states.

The Bush administration's approach, intended to isolate North Korea, instead left allies increasingly doubtful as they began to learn that the briefings omitted essential details about the transaction, U.S. officials and foreign diplomats said in interviews. North Korea responded to public reports last month about the briefings by withdrawing from talks with its neighbors and the United States.

Army Raises Enlistment Age for Reservists to 39
Mon Mar 21, 2005 02:26 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Army, stung by recruiting shortfalls caused by the Iraq war, has raised the maximum age for new recruits for the part-time Army Reserve and National Guard by five years to 39, officials said on Monday.

The Army said the move, a three-year experiment, will add about 22 million people to the pool of those eligible to serve, from about 60 million now. Physical standards will not be relaxed for older recruits, who the Army said were valued for their maturity and patriotism.

---And the fact they can be cannon fodder even at that age makes no difference ,cause they are PATRIOTS you see...When the old guys start dying, hell we will wrap them in flags too..Is there a window open I'm feeling a draft?---

Exonerations in California
Introduction

There have been numerous egregious miscarrages of justice in California. At least six men have been sentenced to death who were either acquitted on the charge of murder or had their murder convictions overturned. We have also listed the cases of several men who were convicted of capital murder, non-capital murder and/or rape and were later exonerated after serving years in prison for crimes they didn't commit. This is by no means a complete list, but it should demonstrate how often wrongful convictions do occur in California.

http://www.deathpenalty.org/index.php?pid=Innocence

---As you read this list,...REMEMBER...These men were SET TO BE EXECUTED...If we have executed ONE innocent then our ENTIRE system of Justice has failed. And I hate to tell you, if this many can be WRONGLY CONVICTED to death in Cali ALONE...WE surely have already executed the INNOCENT....BTW...WHY are we letting our Gov kill people anyway?....YOU CAN NOT SAY MURDER IS WRONG AND THEN MURDER PEOPLE FOR IT...You killed an unarmed killer in a cage...WHAT DOES THAT MAKE YOU?

'O.C. Register' First Major Paper to Call for U.S. Pullout in Iraq

By E&P Staff Published: March 21, 2005 11:00 AM ET

NEW YORK In a Sunday editorial marking the second anniversary of the American invasion of Iraq, The Orange County (Ca.) Register called for a U.S. pullout from that country, becoming perhaps the first newspaper in a Top 25 market to do so. The Register's daily circulation is around 300,000.

"We opposed this war from the beginning and we believe the United States should withdraw its troops sooner rather than later, under a sensible exit strategy," the editorial declared.

"While some argue that chaos would follow an American withdrawal, it is also true that U.S. troops have become a lightning rod, attracting the very attacks they are working to prevent.

"Saddam Hussein is out of power, which is good. Now it is time to leave Iraq, for better and for worse, to the Iraqis."

Where Is Your Money Going? Support-the-troops rhetoric masks massive waste

by Rep. Ron Paul

Last week Congress spent another $82 billion in an "emergency" supplemental appropriations bill. There is no emergency, however: Congress simply exceeded its fiscal year budget once again and needs more money. The 13 standard appropriations bills, which provide about $2.4 trillion to run the federal government in 2005, are not enough to satisfy the ravenous spending appetites of Congress and the administration. Hence the so-called emergency supplemental bill, which cravenly combines troop funding with useless foreign aid and domestic pork.

Supplemental spending bills are particularly galling because "emergency" funds are not subject to the same congressional budget rules. This allows Congress to spend billions of dollars completely outside the stated budget, with little or no public attention. It also underscores how meaningless government budgets really are – unlike families and businesses, the political class never has to worry about busting the budget.
