Dear OpTruth Supporter,
Last night, in front of the nation, President Bush continued to ignore the pressing questions that our men and women in uniform face every day. For our members of the military, there is no choice but to stay the course. We will serve when called, just as we have in Iraq for the past two years.
But that doesn't mean we don't expect straight answers. On Tuesday morning, I released a statement calling on the President to address a slate of problems faced by our troops. He failed to do so. Read our members' responses to his speech and then give us your thoughts through the comments section!
How will we sustain the all-volunteer Army, given the recent recruiting shortfalls? Will President Bush ask his staff to offer honest answers, given that Vice President Cheney and Secretary Rumsfeld have offered vastly different estimates on how long things will take? What will be done to address the drastic shortfalls in funding for the Veteran's Administration? Are we making more enemies than we're killing?
And perhaps most importantly, why does the President's view of the situation in Iraq look so vastly different than the view of our men and women in uniform?
Our Troops have fulfilled their end of the bargain, now it is time for the President to provide the leadership needed to make sure this nation meets its responsibility to the Troops. In the coming weeks, Operation Truth will launch several new initiatives designed to focus the ongoing debate on the pressing issues that have thus far been ignored by the Bush Administration.
As we press on, let's demand more than just pep rallies from the Bush Administration. It is time for a serious discussion about Veterans' health care, accountability for deadly mistakes, the future of the all volunteer army, and a real plan for success in Iraq.
The first step to getting those answers is to know the real deal, and only the men and women who served can give you that. Now more than ever, it's crucial that we increase our visibility and expand our online army of supporters. So here's what you can do: Send this email to five friends, tell them to read OpTruth's questions for President Bush, and then ask that they join our email list. It's a simple step that will go a long way towards making sure that the voice of the Troops is heard.
Sincerely,
Paul Rieckhoff, OIF VeteranFounder and Executive Director
