BAGHDAD, Aug 15 (KUNA) -- Iraqi vice-president Dr. Adel Abdulmahdi escaped a bid on life northeast of Baghdad Monday, a source at the Iraqi police said.He said in a press release Abdulmahdi escaped a botched assassination attempt while he was returning to the Iraqi capital from Al-Adheem town in the Deyali governorate.The source gave no further details.Meanwhile, a committee handling affairs of detainees in Iraq released 116 people for lack of evidence.A source at the justice ministry said the four-member committee was tasked with reviewing files of Iraqi detainees and did not find evidence against the inmates.The committee is made up of representatives from the ministries of justice, human rights and interior, as well as the Multi-national force (MNF).
