At least 635 people killed and 237 injured as a crowd of Shiite pilgrims stampede while on a bridge near a Shiite mosque in northeastern Baghdad, police say.

According to witnesses, someone in the crowded screamed that there was a suicide bomber, creating the panic. According to police, some people were crushed to death, but most drowned.
