Beautiful statements of principle by Czech President Václav Klaus:

[Europe is]:An economic system, which must not be damaged by excessive government regulation, by fiscal deficits, by heavy bureaucratic control, by attempts to perfect markets by means of constructing the optimal market structures, by huge subsidies to privileged or protected industries and firms, by labor market rigidities, etc.
A social system, which must not be wrecked by all imaginable kinds of disincentives, by more than generous welfare payments, by large scale redistribution, by many forms of government paternalism. A system of ideas, which will be based on freedom, personal responsibility, individualism, natural caring for others and genuine moral conduct of life.
Please read the whole thing. I wish American "Conservatives" would worry more about preserving these classic liberal values here at home, and less about gays getting married and teaching creationism in science class.
