Gallup bucks trend, has Bush approval rising in disagreement with every other agency including Fox

RAW STORY

Despite a generally negative evaluation of President George W. Bush's response to Hurricane Katrina, and increasing worries about the war in Iraq, Gallup finds that Bush's approval ratings are climbing, in contrast with every other major research polling service and news agency, RAW STORY has learned.

Gallup found Bush's approval rating was lowest -- at 40 percent -- between Aug. 22 and Aug. 25. Since then, it has climbed five points, while every other poll has declined. The poll has also found that Bush's handling of the hurricane polling has improved since the initial disaster, from 44 percent to 58 percent.

Gallup claims Bush's approval has climbed since Hurricane Katrina.

Not Fox.

The conservative Fox News poll, released Thursday, found that 41 percent of voters approve and 51 percent disapprove of Bush뭩 performance, which is the lowest job rating he has received in a Fox poll.

Fox had Bush's approval rating down four percentage points from two weeks ago, around the time Katrina뭩 toll was becoming clear, and down seven points from before the hurricane.

A Sept. 12 Washington Post/ABC News poll also has Bush's approval at record lows -- 42 percent. So did Time Magazine, also at 42 percent. As did the Associated Press, with 39 percent. Newsweek had him polling lowest: 38 percent.

Gallup has faced critics on the left; their samples tend to include more Republicans than other pollsters, even though there are more registered Democrats in the United States.
Gallup says this more accurately reflects the voting demographic of the country, saying more Republicans vote.
