Suicide bomber strikes Baghdad oil ministry

September 26, 2005 - 3:14PM

A suicide bomber has killed at least six people and wounded 14 outside Iraq's oil ministry in Baghdad.

The attack happened at 7.45 am (1345 AEST) today when the bomber rammed his car against a bus carrying oil ministry staff, an interior ministry source said.

Most of the victims were from the oil ministry, but two of those killed were policemen from the nearby police academy.

Insurgents are waging a campaign of bombings and shootings in a bid to topple Iraq's US-backed government.

They have also bombed oil pipelines, depriving the government of badly needed crude export revenues.
