The Pentagon is failing our Troops. Despite the fact that it is required to do so, the it has not yet reimbursed thousands of troops who served in Iraq and were forced to buy their own supplies and protective equipment.

This is an absolute outrage. Thankfully, Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut has introduced a measure that would direct the Department of Defense to comply with existing law that requires military personnel and others to be reimbursed for purchasing essential military equipment for troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We urgently need your help to convince Congress to pass this measure and let the Pentagon know that we will not accept the shortchanging of those who are fighting for us. For those who were fortunate enough to have proper protective equipment sent their way, their lives were often saved. One Veteran named Todd Bowers, who appeared with Senator Dodd at a press conference announcing the amendment told the media that his vision and possibly his life were saved from a sniper’s shot by a $600 rifle scope and $100 goggles sent to him by his father.

We must know why people like Todd Bowers weren’t issued this equipment by the military to begin with. At the same time, we must demand that he and others like him be reimbursed.
It is a disgrace that the Pentagon asked Troops to go to war to be shot at without proper protection, and fight back without the right equipment. But to make the Troops foot the bill for fighting this war the right way is an even greater affront to every man and woman in uniform.
