Veterans For Peace in New Orleans, Louisiana!!! If you are not a veteran for peace, what are you a veteran for

Veterans Working Together for Peace & Justice Through Non-violence.

Veteran For Peace Down Under

James Hill here, Many of you know me from the month in Crawford. Since that time I have been privileged to work towards the relief and rebuilding of New Orleans and to support the recent rally and civil disobedience in D.C.

New Orleans Veterans for Peace believe that documenting and supporting peace actions and creating bonds with the international peace community will strengthen the American peace movement and bring a greater understanding of the true face of America to a world increasingly distrustful of us. We want to extend the reach of independent media and under served communities by bringing remote communications tools to peace actions and natural disasters.

To that end; I will be spending the next two months in Australia putting some of these ideas to the test. Saturday I participated in a 3000 person strong rally and march against the Iraq war and new 'anti-terror' laws in Australia. These laws make the Patriot act look tame. Tonight I am attending a Camp Casey documentary by Australian journalist Sophie McNeill. In the next few weeks I will be providing technical support and documenting an action at a U.S military installation, speaking to various peace groups around the country and attending workshops to become a more effective activist.

The action is at a place called Pine Gap, a secret U.S. military installation in the Australian desert. To learn more about Pine Gap and the action I am supporting follow this link: http://margokingston.typepad.com/harry_version_2/2005/10/entering_the_ga.html#more

The speaking opportunities present an incredible opportunity for us to get our message out to the world. We would like to tell your stories to an international audience, please add a comment to this entry with the story of how you came to the peace movement, what you are doing now and a message for the global peace movement touching on the direction you think the country in general and the peace movement in particular are heading. I will build my talks around your stories and messages. I believe we are reaching a tipping point in the states and around the world and with just a few more nudges this whole damn war may stop.

I have started posting some photos under the Galleries section. If anyone needs a high res copy, email me.

Any help you or anyone you know can give us would be greatly appreciated. I have arranged to travel through Australia with a local activist, driving to most events and camping out. This should keep expenditures relatively low. Any funds raised will be used to offset the technology already purchased and to pay for gas and food. Please follow the donate link on the right side of the page to help. Thanks.

Peace,
James
