There is sometimes a segment on WCCO-TV (CBS affiliate) in the Twin Cities called Reality Check hosted by Pat Kessler, and last night's 10 p.m. news featured a segment about which MN Dems also got money from "Abramoff clients." I watched the show Criminal Minds on CBS last night, saw the news teaser for the show, so made sure I watched their 10 p.m. news. The local ABC affiliate, KSTP, is so far right they're almost Faux Nooze, and usually I find out more from the local WCCO news when I watch them to get the weather report. Last night disappointed me....
Those few days between when Wellstone was killed in the plane crash and Mondale was put up as a candidate (and lost to that slimey Norm Coleman) a "client" of Abramoff's gave the Mondale campaign money. Oberstar (my rep!) has gotten $3500 from an Abramoff "client" (that was disappointing to hear), and he's not giving the money back. The story only featured MN politicians who got money from Abramoff "clients."
Anyway, I couldn't help but write when the piece turned out to be so damned misleading I felt like I was hearing that whiney Cretin voice "Clinton did it!".... And, I included two links to info I got off the DCP blog about a week and a half ago when there was a thread about it.
Sparrow - in response to what you posted on the most recent thread (about Republican media), this is now dedicated to you. ;-)

I think you might want to re-check details for your Reality Check story about Abramoff client monies, and fully explain the difference between money Abramoff (and his wife) gave to politicians vs. money Abramoff clients gave to politicians. Most people who have drunk too much kool-aid don't realize the flap is about the money Abramoff (and his wife) gave to politicians personally, vs. the monies some of the Abramoff clients (mostly, or all, casinos, it seems) gave to politicians. If you total the monies Abramoff personally gave to Bu$h, you'll find the thousands Abramoff gave to Bu$h from his own personal coffers is what Bu$h has now donated to charity, BUT the money Abramoff raised (over $100,000) for Bu$h's last campaign has NOT been given to charities. Other Republican politicians are following suit - the monies given to them by Abramoff (and his wife) personally are being donated to charities, while monies given to Republican (and Democratic) politicians from casinos are not being returned or given back to the tribes who gave them the monies, but by far the largest beneficiaries of tribal monies are Republicans, and the ONLY politicians who got money directly from Abramoff (and his wife) were Republicans, and no Democrats - none.... That distinction needs to be made absolutely clear, and while I realize you repeatedly said 'Abramoff clients' in your piece, I don't think most people (mostly Republicans who watch too much "Faux Nooze") know the difference.
Oh, and BTW, one personal donation from Abramoff directly (not from a client of Abramoff's) to another MN Republican legislator (Gil Gutknecht) of $250 you missed and did not mention in your piece. The MN legislators you mentioned in your piece as receiving monies from "clients" of Abramoff are not on the info I have, and you didn't say where your got your information.
I know the slant of your piece was to point out the fact that some clients of Abramoff's donated money to a few Democrats, too, but the real "issue" is how much money Abramoff personally gave to politicians, and that was not made crystal clear in your piece. You sounded like a stereotypical whiney Republican saying "Well, gee, but Democrats got money from Abramoff, too." (So much for "liberal" media! You, and/or WCCO's owners and/or managers, are obviously Republicans by the slant of your piece.) The Reality Check you broadcast was very misleading (if not lying by sin of omission, something at which the Bu$hCo administration excels), since Democrats did not benefit from Abramoff personally and directly - ONLY Republicans benefited directly from Abramoff (and his wife). That a few Democrats and many Republicans got money from some Indian tribes who happened to be clients of Abramoff's is not in dispute (some Indian tribes have said they do not want the money they gave to any politicians returned - and I rather suspect many Indian tribal/casino leaders regret having done business with Abramoff, because it now makes those tribes look like fools for trusting Abramoff). That's not what the scandal is about!
It's the money Abramoff personally gave to Republicans that's the real scandal. Check out the bottom graphic of how much DeLay got from Abramoff, personally....
The Abramoff thing is entirely a Republican scandal, so stop trying to sound like the very whiney Georgie Bu$h and Dickie Cheney who try to blame everyone else for their own decisions that happen to be illegal, unjust, immoral, and unethical (and clearly in line with PNAC objectives).
Sincerely,
