This week in Truthdig:

REPORTS --

"Bush on Bin Laden's Satellite Phone: Wrong Again"

Truthdig contributor Jon Wiener writes that there is just one problem with President Bush's claim that leaks to the news media caused Osama Bin Laden to evade capture in 1998: it's not true. And what's more, almost no one in the traditional media has bothered to make that point.

"Betraying the Reagan Revolution" Robert Scheer writes about the irony of Jack Abramoff and his cohorts, how "those once young Republicans who hectored their elders about being more vigilant in defending the nation's taxpayers and security forces should now end up charged with deeply betraying both."

EAR TO THE GROUND --

In two separate raids that do not bode well for America's image in Iraq: "U.S. Troops Seize Acclaimed Iraqi Journalist" U.S. forces storm the house of an award-winning Iraqi journalist who was investigating U.S. misappropriation of Iraqi funds, firing bullets into his wife and children's room; and "U.S. Forces Raid HQ of Sunni Muslim Scholars" an act the clerics say is punishment for their anti-U.S. stance.
