DOVER, Pa. — The Dover Area School Board unanimously agreed Tuesday to pay $1 million in legal fees to the plaintiffs who successfully sued to end the policy of presenting "intelligent design" as an alternative to evolution.
The eight board members agreed to pay three legal organizations that represented the plaintiffs in the case. The organizations also said they agreed to reduce their attorneys' fees and expenses by more than $1 million because members who supported the intelligent design policy had been voted off the board
.In December, a federal judge ruled the previous board's decision to insert intelligent design into the science curriculum violated the constitutional separation of church and state.
