The White House knew there was trouble, wasn't worried

The White House says that Claude Allen, the president’s former domestic policy adviser facing felony theft charges for an alleged scheme of fraudulent returns of merchandise to department stores, informed his bosses the day in January that he first was apprehended in a Target store.
But the White House accepted Allen’s story that it involved a “misunderstanding’’ about his credit card, and he had undergone extensive background checks for work in the administration that revealed no problems.
Allen left the White House in February, after serving for about a year as the president’s $161,000-a-year assistant for domestic policy. Allen, 45, was charged last week in Montgomery County, Md., with a theft scheme and theft over $500. His lawyer maintains that he has done nothing wrong. >>>>cont
