Why does the insanity of it all even surprise me anymore? I dunno.

Shortly after college, I spent about a year in an entry-level sales position within the corporate retail sector. As a sales professional, I was expected to attend weekly briefs, where we would be informed on how to present that weeks' promotions and various packages. As you can imagine, much of what I was given was pure spin, unadultered bullshit which any customer with even a half a brain should have been able to see right through.
The reason I mention this is that I see some of the same behavior in the news lately, regarding corporate influence on party-line politics (e.g. Big Oil and the GOP, etc.). Specifically, I see the use of careful presentation (read: spin), blitzkrieg advertising, endlessly repeated selling points, and a ridiculous amount of fine print. It occurs to me that, like the management at my old job, some of our friends on the Hill must spend so much time being inundated with and parroting the same pathetic lines that they must eventually start believing said lines. How else are we supposed to believe that half of what the Administration has tried to sell us is in any way geared to our own benefit? Answer: I think they've deluded themselves into believing their own lies.
Don't believe me? Look at Condi's face next time she gets called before Congress. It's not that I think she's inherently dishonest (though capable of dishonesty she certainly is). I think she's just had to sort of "pull on the blinders" just to play the white christian power game while still being able to sleep at night. I think a lot of people in the GOP and right-wing media have had to do so.
Think about it.
