THE death toll from the Indonesian earthquake rose to more than 5000 today, as Australian medical teams flew to Java to assess what help was needed.The death toll from Saturday's earthquake on the island of Java was updated by Indonesian officials to 5135 today and was expected to rise further.

It is estimated about 35,000 homes and buildings were destroyed around and 50,000 people need urgent help after the 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck south of the major city of Yogyakarta at dawn.
