An attorney defending Saddam Hussein in the Iraqi High Criminal Court on Tuesday accused the United States government of intimidating and hampering the efforts of the disposed Iraqi dictator's defense team. Curtis Doebbler, one of the international lawyers representing Saddam, said there is "an intentional effort ... by the United States government to intimidate us and to try to prevent us from even coming to the trial, much less in providing a defense." (...) Doebbler said the lack of protection for defense lawyers is part of a larger scheme to disrupt the defense counsel's efforts to acquit Saddam Hussein. "Everything about this trial has been orchestrated by the United States authorities," he said, adding that there is "very strong evidence that indicated that there is a conscious effort to prevent the defense from being able to put on a defense."..
