Hayden's first mission at CIA: banning books by ex-CIA officers

June 1, 2006 -- Gen. Michael Hayden's presidential swearing-in ceremony at CIA headquarters yesterday displayed a marked difference from past, similar ceremonies. Rejecting tradition, retired senior CIA officials were denied admission to the ceremony. CIA sources also report that one of Hayden's first targets at the CIA will be the agency's Publications Review Board (PRB). Hayden has been directed by the White House to eliminate much of the board's mandate with a goal being the prohibition of former CIA officers writing any books or articles.

A number of civilians, including veterans, were also denied entry to Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day because the complex had been "locked down" because of George W. Bush's presence there. The ban on entry included the cemetery itself and neighboring Fort Myer.
