[William Pfaff]U.S. arrogance unravels globally


PARIS - The George W. Bush administration may find that the War on Terror's counterpart of the 1968 Tet offensive in Vietnam has already started, and is running in slow motion. The outcome is likely to be the same - the destruction of popular American confidence in the war, and in the Bush government.

There is a steady rise in daily violence in Iraq. Fighting in Anbar province now has required deployment of an armored brigade from U.S. reserves in the Gulf.
