Beirut passengers stranded; airlines cancel flights :

Thousands of passengers traveling to Beirut are stranded all across the Middle East due to the closure of the Beirut airport following the Israeli attack on it.
Many regional airlines have announced cancellation of flights to the Lebanese capital.
Dubai-based Emirates Airline has cancelled four flights to Beirut today (July 13) and tomorrow in the wake of the airport bombings, according to a spokesperson.
“Due to ongoing military operations, Beirut airport is closed until further notice. Emirates flights to Beirut: EK957/958, EK953/954 on 13th July, and EK957/958 on 14th July have been cancelled,” the spokesperson said.
Emirates’ Airport Services, meanwhile, is making arrangements to accommodate transit passengers in hotels. “The Emirates Call Centre is calling affected passengers to update them of the situation, and is taking note of their re-booking requests. For Emirates, the safety of its passengers is of paramount importance.”
The airline is closely monitoring the situation, the spokesperson said.
Qatar Airways said in a statement that following the security situation at Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut where the runways were disrupted by bomb attacks, Qatar Airways Flight QR422 from Doha to Beirut has been cancelled.
The aircraft, an Airbus A330-300, was due to leave Doha International Airport at 1230 (Doha time). The return flight QR 423, due to depart Beirut at 1635 (Beirut time) has also been cancelled.
Due to the uncertainty surrounding the situation in Lebanon, passengers booked on Qatar Airways’ flights to and from Beirut, over the next few days are advised to contact their local Qatar Airways office for further updates, it said.
Oman Air which operates a daily flight to Beirut also announced that it has discontinued Beirut operations till further notice.
Usama Karim Al Haremi, Oman Air’s manager-corporate communications and media said: “Due to these unexpected operational circumstances, Oman Air regrets any inconvenience to its valued passengers. To eliminate the impact of this decision, procedures will be but in action, with regard to refunding the purchased tickets fare.
“Any additional information concerning this status can be obtainable through our call center on 24707222, or all through Oman Air’s offices at various destinations,” he added. -TradeArabia News Service
