A Chinese researcher for the New York Times, Zhao Yan, has been sentenced to three years in jail on fraud charges but was found not guilty of leaking state secrets, his lawyers told reporters.

The court in Beijing jailed Zhao, 44, for three years on the fraud charges but ruled there was not sufficient evidence to imprison him on the more serious accusation of leaking state secrets, laywers Mo Shaoping and Guan Anping said.
