Imams At London Mosque Claim Fox News Priest "Tricked" Them Into Talking On Air

The Guardian Paul Lewis Posted Monday August 14, 2006 at 10:32 AM

An Imam at a London mosque claims he and his fellow elders were "tricked" by Fox News priest into talking to him on camera. According to The Guardian (regstrn. required), Fox News
religious correspondent Father Jonathan Morris identified himself as "a priest working in Rome" and for the Vatican. (In April 2005, Morris served as Fox's "Papal Contributor" during the selection process for the new Pope, but there is no bio for him on the site.)

Per the Guardian, Mohammed Shoyaib, the imam of the Musjid-e-Umer mosque in Walthamstow, said Morris told them he was "working for peace in the world, that all faiths should work together for peace, that he needs a united message of peace for the American people. Only later he said he was from 'a sister network of Sky News', but never mentioned Fox."The Imam said Morris' ID listed him as a freelancer.

Father Morris denied wrongdoing. A spokesman for Fox News was "not available for comment."
