Global Protests Call for UN Intervention in Darfur
More than 2 million civilians have fled their homes and hundreds of thousands have died in the Sudan conflict.
Demonstrators around the world staged a day of action Sunday to highlight the war in Darfur, a region of western Sudan where hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and more than 2 million have been driven from their homes. As the African Union prepares to abandon its troubled peace mission to Darfur, the region is descending ever more steeply into war as a new flood of civilians flee their burned and bombed-out villages for sprawling refugee camps.
