Four US troops slain in Baghdad
23 October 2006
BAGHDAD - Four more US soldiers have been killed in separate incidents in Baghdad, their headquarters said Monday, as October remained on course to be the worst month for American casualties since 2004.
All four were killed Sunday, three in gun attacks and one by a roadside booby-trap, the US military said in a series of statements.
The deaths followed five on the previous day elsewhere around Iraq and brought to 84 the number of US troops killed in the first three weeks of October.
If the toll continues to mount at the same rate until the end of October it will become the bloodiest mobth for US forces in Iraq since November 2004, when they fought a fierce street battle in the western town of Fallujah.
The latest casualties bring the number of US forces killed since the March 2003 invasion to 2,790, according to an AFP count based on Pentagon figures.
