MONTPELIER, Vt. --U.S. Sen. James Jeffords asked a GOP group Monday to stop using his picture in a television commercial promoting Republican U.S. House candidate Martha Rainville.
In a letter to Tom Reynolds, the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, Jeffords said the ad implied he was supporting Rainville, the former head of the Vermont National Guard.
"That is not true," said Jeffords, I-Vt. "Consequently, I am requesting you cease running the advertisement immediately."
But the committee said it would continue airing the commercial, which hit the airwaves Thursday.
