Senate Democrats picked two women for senior posts Tuesday and appointed former U.S. Capitol police chief Terrance Gainer as sergeant at arms. Their choice as majority leader, Sen. Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record), said a top priority is getting a new secretary of defense confirmed.
Reid told The Associated Press that he supports replacing Donald Rumsfeld with formerCIA Director Robert Gates by year's end, asPresident Bush has urged.
