November 9, 2006 -- Informed sources report that Sen. George Allen was in a quasi-psychotic state of denial over his loss to Jim Webb in Virginia's hotly-contested Senate election. GOP party leaders, concerned that Allen would not concede in the face of a decisive defeat, was going to draw out the process and put the Republican Party in an even worse light. Allen conceded in a 3:00 pm EST news conference.
There is also the possibility that the Democrats could pick up an additional two Senate seats next year through GOP attrition as a result of the declining health of two western senators in states with newly re-elected Democratic governors. Such an unforeseen event would give the Democrats a 53 seat majority in the Senate.
