Manila- The United States on Tuesday demanded custody of a 21-year-old US Marine convicted of rape and sentenced to life in prison in the Philippines while the soldier's lawyers appealed the decision. In a formal diplomatic request to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the US government invoked a security pact with the Philippines in seeking the custody of Lance Corporal Daniel Smith until his conviction becomes final. >>>cont

take note, the VFA is not even a proper treaty... it wasn't ratified by the US senate.
