80 unidentified bodies buried in Karbalaa

By Ali al-Nashi

Karbalaa, Jan 15, (VOI) – Eighty unidentified bodies were buried in the Iraqi Shiite-sacred city of Karbalaa’s cemetery after they were brought from the forensic medicine department in Baghdad, an official source in Karbalaa said on Monday.

"The bodies were buried in the al-Wadi al-Jadid cemetery, south of Karbalaa, after none of the bodies were identified by relatives in the forensic department's morgue in Baghdad," a source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

The source said the bodies were tagged and photographed to make it easy for possible relatives to identify them in the future.

The latest batch rise to more than 1,892 the number of unidentified bodies buried in al-Wadi al-Jadid cemetery in Karbalaa since June 2006.

Scores of unidentified bodies are frequently found dumped in different parts of Baghdad as violence and sectarian tensions escalate in Iraq
