Bush's War on the Republic
In his State of the Union speech, George W. Bush made clear why his endless "war on terror" could mean the end of the American Republic. Bush has so expanded the original concept of fighting al-Qaeda and "terrorist groups with global reach" -- to instead try to drain an ever-deepening pool of Islamic militancy -- that the United States can't win the war. But the interminable conflict will guarantee the steady erosion of the nation's constitutional system by wiping out key liberties and installing a permanent, all-powerful Commander in Chief.
