Reading The Pictures: Pakistan Bordering On Invisibility

The symbolism of the photos accompanying today's NYT article about al Qaeda's resurgence seem pretty straight forward.

With the Administration hesitant to shine a greater light on Pakistan's complicity, The Times merely emphasizes the understatement. In this case, the silhouettes editorialize Pakistan's ultra-low profile.

Considering the growing strength of the Taliban in Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal area, these nearby Pakistani soldiers, monitoring the Afghan border, couldn't have a better view. In terms of having some impact, however, they might as well be invisible.
