Dems Push Bills To End Iraq War

Democrats said it was time for the Iraqis to play a larger role in the war as they began pushing legislation through a House committee aimed at forcing President Bush to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq next year. Their Senate counterparts struggled just to get their war debate off the ground.
The House Appropriations Committee was expected to vote later Thursday on a $124 billion spending bill that includes $95.5 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The measure was expected to pass narrowly -- mostly along party lines with a few Democratic defectors -- paving the way for a floor vote next week.
