April 28 (Reuters) - Fifty people were killed and another 70 were wounded in a car bombing in the holy Iraqi Shi'ite city of Kerbala on Saturday, Kerbala's provincial health spokesman Salim Kadhim told Reuters.
Here is a list of some of the deadliest bomb attacks in Iraq this year:
Jan. 16, 2007 - A car bomb and suicide bomber strike the Mustansiriya University in central Baghdad killing at least 70 people and wounding 180.
Jan. 22, 2007 - A double car bombing at a second-hand goods market in Bab al-Sharji, a busy commercial area in central Baghdad, kills 88 people and wounds 160.
Feb. 1, 2007 - Two suicide bombers strike at a market in the Shi'ite town of Hilla, killing 61 people and wounding 150.
Feb. 3, 2007 - Truck bomb kills 135 people and wounds 305 at a market in the Sadriya quarter of central Baghdad.
Feb. 12, 2007 - Multiple car bombs explode in the Shorja wholesale market, killing at least 71 people and wounding 165. At least nine others are killed at the Bab al-Sharji market, also in central Baghdad.
March 6 - Two suicide bombers strike in Hilla, south of Baghdad, killing 105 pilgrims. Insurgents also launch attacks against Shi'ite pilgrims in a total of 12 attacks. In all 137 pilgrims died and 310 were wounded.
March 27 - Two truck bombs explode in Tal Afar, close to the Syrian border and the regional capital of Mosul. The final death toll reached 152. This bomb is the deadliest single insurgent attack in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
April 14 - A suicide car bomber kills 40 people and wounds more than 70 at a crowded bus station in the Iraqi holy city of Kerbala.
April 18 - Multiple car bombings kill 191 people around Baghdad. Near a popular market in the central Sadriya neighbourhood, one car bomb killed 140 people and wounded 150, police said, making it the worst single insurgent bomb attack in Baghdad since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
April 28 - A suicide car bomber kills 51 people and wounds 70 at a checkpoint in Kerbala.
