Since 2002, Democratic consultants have been whispering in the ears of party leaders to give George W. Bush what he wants on Iraq to avoid accusations that they are "soft" or "unpatriotic." The results of those calculations can now be measured in the growing lists of dead and wounded as well as in the Democrats' plummeting poll numbers.
