Washington, Oct 26 (IANS) Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has wished 'Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and their friends' around the world 'a joyous Diwali' with a promise that if elected he would 'work to renew America's moral leadership' in the world.

'Americans, despite our varied backgrounds, believe that all people are created equal, and that each person should be free to practice or not practice religion as they choose,' he said in message of Diwali greetings.

But, 'these beliefs have faced challenges at home and abroad throughout history, but they are the beliefs our nation was founded on, and we always return to them,' said Obama, who is leading in most polls nationally over Republican rival John McCain.

'If I'm elected President of the United States, I will work to renew America 's moral leadership in the world,' said Obama adding, 'This is our time to create change, and I believe that we can and must continue the fight against ignorance and intolerance.

This is probably one of the most heartfelt happy diwali wishes of the President Obama. It is so nice of him to share with the celebration of Diwali. May he has the best returns of the year. I am looking forward for this year's wishes.

Warmest regards,
Anne Walker
