'Scapegoats': Jailed GIs plan appeal after Bush memos

'Scapegoats'
You've not heard the last from some 0f the only Americans prosecuted for torture under the Bush administration.
Charles Graner and Lynndie England, who were both made famous for applying the Bush administration's torture techniques to prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, are pleading their case to the media and preparing appeals.
From the Washington Post:

Please, would you allow these Reservists their true day in court before you start up the scumbag line? When you do this, you fall hook, line, and sinker with the Bush camp as you are basing your beliefs (Lynndie especially)on the spin the government and military put on her. Here is an example, you have the "leash" picture and the electrodes picture on your site (Lynndie had nothing to do with the second one). Anyway, look at the leash picture. Does Ms. England look like she is dragging "Gus" - does she even look interested in what is going on? No,and the reason is because she was visiting Graner (she was NOT a guard, but as clerk)that night and "Gus" was out of control. Graner was going to move him to another cell, he grabbed a military tie-down, wrapped it around Gus's middle section (he didn't want to struggle with Gus in a small area and he was known for this). So, he was going to move him, tried to pull him up, the tether slipped up to his neck because he continued to struggle. At that point, Graner asked Lyndie to get his camera so that he could document what was going on (apparently, soldiers were told to document with pictures any use of force). He asked Lynndie to grab the "leash" so he could get a picture of what Gus was doing, she stepped in, click-click, the picture was over, Gus calmed down and Graner was able to walk him back to his cell.

There are stories related to these awful pictures. I am not saying I condone what they did, but it will soon be revealed through more pictures being released on May 28, from other theaters that will show that what went on at Abu Ghraib was a tea party compared to what will be released.

The true "bad apples" are the chain of command - right up to the civilian leaders. They knew what was going on and sanctioned it. Graner received much praise from the CIA interrogators, CI, and MI because he was softening these detainees up.

Was it right? Hell no. My government has been guilty of the most heinous crimes, and I hope they will be brought to justice, but these Reservists were easy targets. They followed orders. They did not kill or maime anyone - but some of the CIA interrogators did - isn't that much worse? Why aren't they being brought to trial? In America, the rule of law is supposed to apply to everyone, but unfortunately, during the Bush regime it was more like

"some pigs are more equal than others"....
