As a poet I will always remember the story of Paul Revere in a rythem and verse,as told by another great poet long ago. As a person whom has contemplated and studied history, I evolved an image of him aside from the famous poem. Yet, even as I imagine him tinkering in his shop, I still see poetry.The sway of courage found in a simple man.
Let us remember what profound act he took to become,rightfully, an American hero. A legend. It was not his battle skills. It was not his great war stratagy. He did not negotiate any great treaties. He did something far more couragous. In every middle sex, village and farm.
He awoke the sleeping armies of FREEDOM to face down TYRANNY.
Through the long difficult night he rode,and banged on the barns of his countrymen;demanding they present themselves to fight for thier LIBERTY. I can even imagine when the occupants of freemens homes lingered in thier uncomfortable slumber, Paul Revere defied them to awake and SCREAMED it.
Awake America.Awake America.
Awake from your troubled sleep my countrymen,for tyranny has shown itself in shadows, on the long, terrible horizon of darkness. AWAKE! AWAKE! I often wonder what he thought of, as he rode into that darkness with the courage that now lives in myth. I wonder if he could ever imagine that tyranny would one day come, not by sea, but by mandate?
An American Mandate that one only defies at the risk of being called insurgent.By the very nature of his heroisim Paul Revere was an insurgent. A simple man pushed too far by immoral leaders. Pushed to action by injustice.
For that matter other men named Washington, Jefferson, Adams and many more were all insurgents. By historical definition all of these men were rebels. They defied a king with an army raised in the dead of night by a simple man who only wished to remain simple. His act of rebellion cannot be dismissed. His courage cannot be denied.
And this one act was very simple. He INFORMED The People.
But many would say I wax to poetic on history. So let us turn to modern times shall we? In these times of "The Information Age" what would you like to talk about? Hows about the war in Iraq?..Okey Dokey.
When the President of the USA LIED openly to connect Saddam Hussien to 9/11 we sure coulda used a Paul Revere then. Unlike then we are now 'informed' of whatever the hell they want to tell us by thier overly madeup and smiling 'news personalities'. That OUR government would manipulate the media is no surprise. What is a complete shock though is that the American people WENT TO SLEEP. Mass hynosis swept the population. Its as if Paul Revere screamed and no one heard it.
Its not as if the info wasnt out there. Hell Im sitting in the rural ghettos of Louisiana and I can go to the net and look it up. So its not the lack of information that is the problem. See,even here, in a republican stronghold, I can learn enough to know our sitting president is a war criminal...(SEE GITMO)..(SEE FALLUJAH)...(SEE OSAMA BIN FORGOTTEN>>if you can find him) And for those bush supporters asking what the HELL am I talking about I say SEE JAMES BATHH..Then well talk.
If you think Bin Laden family money setting GW up in buissness 30 years ago had NOTHING to do with diverting a war to let Osama escape you are either a fool, retarded, stupid, or simply in denial. Or covering up something. But how to cover crimes so large as the facts alone implicates? Ok less than 90 days before the Towers were destroyed the insurance on them was increased. By 300%?...Wake up America.
Where Oh Where is a Paul Revere for OUR times? Will ANYONE cry out into the darkness and say WAKE UP AMERICA.? The real nightmare is the truth. That is how they lured us into a lingering slumber. They used our worst fears against us. They may have even engineered thier own boogymen. (See Donald Rumsfield shaking hands with Saddam early 80s). History does not happen in a vaccumme. Paul Revere is still as relevent today as he was on that night so long ago when he passed into legend. What happened in Lebbannon 20 something years ago still haunts us, yet no one dares speak up.
Those whom say it is thier 'duty' to inform the public have betrayed us. They instead resemble more a Benedict Arnold than a Paul Revere. What was once held up as a model of American heroisim is now silently betraying us as we sleep. The result is we will all hang for it. Our ignorance is engineered by a few, but, we all now have blood on our hands too. We were violated in that terrible darkness. No matter how many nights pass until we purge it into the open, it will continiue to foul your very soul.
The truth shall set you free. When the FULL truth of what has been hidden from us is known the Truth shall put some in prison. And like Arnold some will hang for it. That is the terrible price of TREASON.
What?..Tr-Treason?...Are you awake yet America?
If so go bang on you nieghbors barn and do it to honor one man. Paul Revere. Go and find the information being kept from you and youll see the patterns and the parties they implicate. Find the information and SCREAM IT until SOMEONE is forced to answer for it. If the only answer is the nightmare of a yawwing dark silence, Then in the name of Paul Revere we should mount up and ride into that darkness together and awake a sleeping army named Freedom whose shield is named Liberty.
If they wont wake up. Scream. Bang on something. Do not let Tyranny catch US sleeping.
And to the ones who had the knowledge and betrayed our trust by remaining silent. I truely hope the ghost of Paul Revere haunts you tonight. I hope he mocks you as you dream of things you are too afraid to speak of. I hope that greedy silence is hell on earth. You may not hang for it but perhaps some among you may, after all, when the truth comes out as it will. We will not remain hypnotized by tyranny and fear forever.
Once Freedom is fully awake she is going to SCREAM for a reckoning. I wonder whom will be left to write historys poetry then? The ones writing it now obviously never studied it at all. And history will turn them into ashes for it. The warriors who ride into the darkness to face down tyranny will live FOREVER.
Wake up America. Wake up to the nightmare we have become. And defy anyone who tells you to fear the truth. The only way to redemption is courage in the face of truth.
I think perhaps Paul Revere knew that.
