THE death toll after a stampede on a Baghdad bridge during a Shiite pilgrimage has risen to 965, with another 465 injured.A security source said today: "One hundred and twenty-two corpses of victims have been counted in two hospitals which had not been put into the previous tolls, as well as the 77 wounded."
The previous toll was 843 dead and 388 wounded.
The figures did not include 25 other people who died by eating food poisoned "on purpose" and seven killed by mortar bombs before the stampede, the source said.
Advertisement:It is thought fears of a suicide bomber on the bridge sparked the stampede.
