When President Bush named Harriet E. Miers as his Supreme Court pick at 8:01 a.m. on Oct. 3, Progress for America took just 11 minutes to launch a slick Web site with audio and video clips supporting her confirmation, the NEW YORK TIMES' Glen Justice begins on Monday page ones....

The site was created almost a week earlier and was updated one whole day before the president announced his choice publicly.

Founded by political consultants with close ties to Bush and financed and run by administration allies, Progress for American has forged a unique role as a well-funded advocacy arm of the White House. It increasingly has been taking over duties once reserved for the Republican Party.
