Britain will cut its forces in Iraq by 10 percent -- a reduction of about 800 troops -- by May because Iraqi security forces are becoming more capable of handling security, Defense Secretary John Reid said Monday.

"Let me stress that the reductions I have announced are not part of a handover of security responsibility at the operational level," Reid told the House of Commons. He stressed that the reduction was made on operational rather than political grounds.
