Beirut: Israeli warplanes struck the small military airport of Qulayaat in northern Lebanon, on Thursday, security sources and witnesses said. It was the third airport to be hit by Israel.
Israeli jets fired on the Lebanese air force base in Rayak, in eastern Lebanon near Syria, the first attack directed a military base since Israel launched its offensive. The warplanes fired two missiles, which damaged the base but no casualties.
Israeli jets also hit an air force base in Qlaiat, in northern Lebanon also not far from Syria. There was no word on damages or casualties from the strikes on Qlaiat.
The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry confirmed that two Kuwaiti nationals were killed Thursday by Israel’s air bombardments on southern Lebanon. A female Asian domestic worker accompanying the two was also killed. The Kuwaiti embassy is doing its best to recover the bodies of the two nationals, the statement said, without providing details on the Asian victim.http://www.dailystar.com.lb
Israel's army chief Dan Haltuz has warned that no targets in Lebanon are immune from attack, saying that the military was prepared to continue its offensive for as long as possible.
“Nothing is safe. It is as simple as that,” Halutz said on the second day of an aerial, naval and ground assault on Lebanon.
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan announced he would send a three-person team to the Middle East to help restore order and peace. The team’s first stop is scheduled for Cairo, followed by Israel, the Palestinian territories and Lebanon.
