Losing a War, Winning a Police State
The U.S. intelligence community has reached a consensus on the obvious -- that George W. Bush's invasion of Iraq has worsened the global terrorist threat and made Americans less secure. But losing ground in the "war on terror" has side benefits for Bush. More terrorism strengthens the rationale for expanding his presidential powers, for lining the pockets of friendly corporations and for stripping away constitutional rights of the American people.
