10 U.S. Troops Killed in Iraq; Police Commanders Removed

The U.S. military today announced the deaths of 10 U.S. troops in Iraq on Tuesday, continuing a distressing trend in what has been an unusually bloody month for American soldiers. At least 68 U.S. troops have been killed in October, putting it on pace to become the deadliest month for U.S. forces since January 2005. At least 2,777 have died since the invasion in 2003.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi government has removed the country’s top two police commanders from their posts in response to charges that the Iraqi special police have been working in tandem with Shiite militias and death squads.
