"£108m golden farewell for DIY boss in US". The head line in

the UK Daily mail today (far right-wing paper, "running with the hare" here). The article continues:

CORPORATE America has consolidated its reputation for awarding the world's most obscene pay packets.

Home Depot, the country's biggest DIY retailer, handed chief executive Robert Nardell an extraordinary £108m leavng present.

Paraphrase: The firm had already come under fire for paying Nardelli a princely £115 during his six-year stint at the helm, during which he presided over an 8pc drop in the shares and losses in market share during the same period.

Yet another example of corporate grand larceny against the real wealth-creators. Personal, as well as corporate, windfall taxes would scarcely seem inappropriate, would they. As well as closure of the off-shore bank tax loopholes, if, as I suspect, like our rogues and vagabonds in high places, here in the UK, you have them there as well.
