New crime against Iraq Academic Institution: Massive bombing in al-Mustansiriya University in Baghdad

...The attack against al-Mustansiriya University sums up the aggressions universities and all academic, cultural, scientific and intellectual Iraqi sectors are enduring since the beginning of [U.S.]occupation [5], which has been denounced once again by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) in a report released this week. The systematic liquidation of the country's teachers of both primary and high schools and university professors (29 of them only in al-Mustansiriya University, according to CEOSI estimations), together with that of librarians, scientists, experts, intellectuals and artists, as well as the deliberate destruction of the Iraqi World cultural patrimony have the primary aim to: * Destroy the historical background of Iraq, to erase its identity as a united and tolerant society, and * To prevent the full recovery of both, its sovereignty and democracy. These aims serve the occupiers, who have fueled and tolerated the liquidation of secular and qualified of Iraqi society, sectarian violence and the division of the country. For all these reasons, both the US and the rest of the occupying countries bear the ultimate responsibility of this new massacre in Baghdad’s al-Munstansiriya University...
