Letter about Emergency Response to Hurrican Katrina
Dear Editor,

Independent voices need to be heard. Reason must prevail. Looking into the obvious failures in the federal response to Hurricane Katrina is not a partisan issue and please do not let the media take you down that path. This is not a "blamegame".
This is about accountability for human life and suffering as well as valuing the heritage of the south. This is a national scandal that requires proper investigation. It is of vast importance to have an independent commission, with its own independent investigators, budget and subpoena authority to "evaluate what could and should have been done to avoid the extraordinary damage, the loss of life, the evacuation problems and the inadequate relief efforts that have exacerbated the dislocation and suffering of thousands of Americans affected by Hurricane Katrina" (quote from introduced legislation in the Senate).
This is the right way to look at failures of our government regardless of what political party is in power. Please write, call, and/or email your representatives now. The world is watching. We need to start setting good examples.
