Italian reporter may be missing in Afghanistan
ROME (CNN) -- Italy's Foreign Ministry has opened an investigation into why an Italian reporter in Afghanistan has not been heard from since Sunday, spokesman Nikola Jovanovic said.
Daniele Mastrogiacomo, a journalist for the Italian daily La Repubblica, was on assignment in the violence-plagued nation to work on a number of news stories, said La Repubblica Editor-in-Chief Ezio Mauro. "We have not heard from him since Sunday," Mauro said.
In a note, the Foreign Ministry said Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema is personally following the case and is working closely with the Foreign Ministry's Crisis Unit, along with the Italian Embassy in the Afghan capital, Kabul. (Posted 10:12 a.m.)
