'Surging' Toward Failure in Iraq
George W. Bush's "surge" is getting almost double the number of American soldiers killed in and around Baghdad. But the escalation also is doomed to fail, since it really is only a politically retooled version of the previous failed strategy of "stay the course." The greatest value of the "surge" for Bush is that it gives him a better chance of wresting one more $100 billion blank check from Congress. April 10, 2007
